"Tongue Cancer Treatment"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cancer Services

(as the patient),

I went to my GP with what I thought was water in my ear that infected my sinuses. She prescribed antibiotics ear and nasal sprays and asked to report back in one week if there was no approval. We duplicated this process for week two with no improvement. She advised I get a cancer test to which Iwas shocked and thought was over the top reaction.

Thank goodness she did! ENT detected a tumour to my rear tongue immediately.

Pre diagnosis tests - MRI - Biopsy - PET scan - were very worrying/petrified followed by a feeling of resignation.

As soon as I had diagnosis confirmed and I was greeted by my team I felt really assured and comforted that specialists were at hand to help.

A very insular psychological process was aided enormously by the skills, dedication and emotional understanding of my team.

I cannot begin to thank oncologist - radio therapists - receptionists - dieticians - speech therapists - nurses and support teams enough.
