I recently spent around 2 weeks in the ward after having spent a little time in ICU (another tale of exemplary care btw).
Throughout my time in W205, I received and witnessed what I can only describe as a devotion to patient care from all the staff I encountered.
Doctors, consultants, specialists, nurses and all support staff were consistently friendly, caring and professional.
It was clear to me that patient well-being was a top priority and not just a buzzword that may have been bandied around during training. The staff were unfailingly patient and treated me and my fellow ward mates with exceptional care and understanding. I witnessed first-hand how the staff dealt with patients requiring a high degree of personal care with compassion, even when the patients themselves were perhaps not the most accommodating.
I was not the only patient who noted these positives. During my time on the ward, I interacted with a few fellow patients, and they were similarly impressed.
It is clear to me that the culture on Ward 205 has not occurred by chance. Ward management should be congratulated on their recruitment and training practices, the fruits of which were very evident to me.
In closing, let me state for the record that my respect for the Scottish NHS has grown immeasurably, and I thank the staff on Ward 205 from the bottom of my heart. I salute you all!
