"Feel left in the dark"

About: Western General Hospital / Oncology Western General Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Was to have radiotherapy but at last moment due to last Ct scan this is no longer taking place by mutual agreement just continuing with hormone treatment and blood tests. Had a last blood test near the end of June but have not received result of that yet. Test was done at Western so local doctor does not it seems get results. Maybe I'm just too impatient. But it does feel as if I'm left in the dark.

Also promised some medicine to help with hot flushes but no prescription for this has been received by local doctor. Nor has any physio been arranged yet for my sciatica as was suggested by person who has given me a disability badge and local doctor agreed to ask for.

Beginning to feel left out and wondering if I should bother going to my next hospital appointment in Sept. which I am going to postpone anyway till after my holiday, as I usually feel downhearted after getting hormone jag and I don't want to spoil a well needed break.

Good evening 'Get Organised',

I am so sorry to hear about the experience you have been having which is not what we would expect from our service and follow up care.

Can I please encourage you to attend your appointment in September an ensure you have your queries at the ready. Also, if you have one, you can get in touch with your Clinical Nurse Specialist who may be able to support you with some advice. Each type/ group of cancers has a Nurse Specialist attached to the team. Should you not be able to contact a Nurse Specialist, if you have a number for your Consultants Secretary you could discuss aa appointment with them

Your GP can certainly help with the physiotherapy referral for your sciatica and they may be able to assist with your flushes.

I hope you manage to get the information you require and your worries alleviated soon.

Thank you for your comment I have actually delayed my next appointment to October due to a holiday. It may be just how I feel but I should not have to chase up doctors they are busy enough or nurses who do not respond to messages left when not available to answer phone. I have a next appointment arranged with my consultant mid Jan 2026!
