"Thoughtful, helpful, informative and very reassuring"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

My family has a history of bowel cancer...my partner is recovering from prostate cancer and is living with asymptomatic myeloma. Like many others, I have lost family and friends to cancer....so when I learned that I needed a colonoscopy for irregular bowel habits, blood in stools etc...the prospect of potentially discovering more cancer in our household was terrifying.

From start to finish the whole team at Hairmyres Hospital were thoughtful, helpful, informative and very reassuring. I was treated with respect and understanding, and was given information that I could use, apply and work through - they grounded me and I am profusely grateful to them.

Steven (who performed my colonoscopy) was humorous and relaxed - and managed to let me feel dignified and respected, even during such an undignified procedure - a rare skill!

I was one of the lucky ones - all turned out well for me, and I was given the feedback equally thoroughly and thoughtfully. Thank you...really, sincerely; thank you all

Hello Menquenst,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience while in the endoscopy department having your colonoscopy.

I can understand your feeling of apprehension given your family history and experience with loved ones who are currently living with cancer. I am sorry to hear that your family have experienced health issues. It can be a worrying time which contributes to worries about your own health while going through investigations.

I am so pleased to hear that the staff were able to provide you with reassurance while you were in hospital having your procedure. I will share this feedback with staff who will be delighted to hear you felt reassured.

I am glad all is well following your colonoscopy and you can take the time to recover with your mind at ease.

Take Care

Paula
