"Heart monitor"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My wife experienced a minor stroke in June 2025, but recovered well. We received a text from the NHS in July 2025 that an appointment had been made to fit a heart monitor in August, and that attendance at the RD&E hospital was required for the fitting. No explanation was given for the reasons behind this, and this had not been mentioned by any of the medical professionals during her short (1 night) stay in hospital and post-event appointments.

We were surprised and somewhat relieved to learn from the nurse who fitted the unit, which was done very straightforwardly, that it only had to be worn for 1 day, but had to be returned to a plastic box outside the fitting room. Considering the effort to transport ourselves to the hospital and the interruption to our regular daily routine, we are wondering why an explanatory note cannot be included in the appointment text, and why this type of equipment cannot be posted to the patient and fitted by them (or with domestic assistance) in the comfort of their own home, then posted back the next day in a provided box.
