"Procedure number 41"

About: Victoria Hospital / Discharge Hub Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I had my 41st operative procedure for one of my conditions which took place at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

From the outset, the teams were absolutely lovely, both the theatre team and the nursing team on ward 52. I was very comfortable and felt like I mattered just through the way they interacted with me, thank you to all of them once again and I'm sure I will see them again in another soon.

The only part I would say was a tad anxiety provoking was on discharge, where, I assume due to protocol and systems, some of my medications were being taken off of me. These were medications I had brought in myself and have been agreed and prescribed by specialist consultants in my care that should have been noted on my file. This particular condition is known as one of the most excruciatingly painful conditions a person can live with, so I manage my medications well and responsibly. I'm not sure why this happened as it's never happened before, although it was resolved in the end it makes me feel reluctant to bring my own meds for fear of them being taken from me despite being logged on admission.

Don't get me wrong, the whole experience was so lovely and everyone was so kind and caring, it was just what I assume to be a protocol issue at the end.
