"sensitive, kind and compassionate"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Early Pregnancy Clinic The Ulster Hospital / Theatres / Recovery The Ulster Hospital / Ward 4E (Gynaecology)

(as a service user),

I attended an EPU appointment as an outpatient after my IVF clinic suspected PUL. It quickly became clear I had an ectopic pregnancy and needed to be admitted for emergency treatment. I was in shock and not understanding how serious things were as we waited for my husband to arrive. I was admitted to ward 4E and had surgery later that evening. I stayed on the ward for a further 2 days to recover.

Every member of staff we came across was sensitive, kind and compassionate. They made a very distressing situation that little bit easier.

Staff members even made sure to call in and check up on us during their next shift.

Marion and Lesley from EPU, as well as Lucy and student Niamh were wonderful with me - explaining what was happening and keeping me calm while my husband was on his way.

On the ward I was cared for by a number of wonderful nurses and healthcare assistants including Caitlinn, Neethu, Terry Lee, Orianna, Lucy and Nikki.  I was very distressed and feeling unwell after the GA and they were so kind and calm with me, especially out of hours once my husband had gone home.

I also dealt with various excellent doctors, namely Dr Pryam and Dr Glenn (anaesthesia) who performed my surgery and Dr Peter, Dr Allen and Dr Aoibheann who cared for me in the ward in the following days. Dr Aoibheann in particular showed so much compassion and kindness to us when faced with completing the forms about how our baby’s remains were to be treated. Her respect and discretion was very much appreciated.
