I had waited quite some time on the Orthopaedics list at Glasgow Royal Infirmary to get my right hip replaced. The last few months of waiting were spent in a lot of pain, and my mobility was increasingly reduced.
However once called in for further assessment last November, I have nothing but praise for those involved in my care throughout my journey. Everyone I met as I made my way through the system was professional, empathetic and informative, from the initial advanced physio assessment, through the pre med process, and then on to the day of surgery itself.
On arrival to the hospital on the day of the op, the theatre reception staff were excellent, and kept me informed. Theatre were also excellent, with particular mention for Sally (Anaesthetist) and my wonderful consultant, Cameron. Immediate post op care in the recovery room was great, and once back in the ward, both day and night staff were caring and efficient. I was discharged the following day, and since then am recovering really well, having followed the rules to aid my own recovery.
The only thing that left me feeling frustrated and unhappy with the whole experience was that no one seemed to be able to give me any sort of timescale on when I could expect to be scheduled for the operation. It doesn't seem right to just leave people hanging on indefinitely, in chronic pain, without any sense of reprieve or any updates available.
