"My son had a day surgery procedure"

About: Borders General Hospital / Day Procedure Unit Borders General Hospital / Paediatrics (Ward 15)

(as a parent/guardian),

Prior to his surgery date, our original date had been changed due to unforeseen circumstances, we were quickly offered another date. Mandy the surgical secretary was brilliant, friendly and efficient. Thank you.

We received our letter with all the information needed about arriving at ward 15 and what we needed to bring. The staff on ward 15 were friendly and informative as well as professional. Kerry and Sarah looked after us on the ward. When my son was in theatre they kept me updated.

Theatre staff were friendly and good with my son. Also mention to the anaesthetist and the surgeon, Mr Hammond. All a great team who show that they are all very experienced and work well together for these procedures to run like clock work, whilst also making you feel you are being treated as an individual and the care is unique to you. My son didn't feel awkward at all. He felt he could speak up, ask questions and be listened to.

Thank you so much to the staff involved on our day case. One thing I will suggest is that Ward 15 has an area for parents to sit for a cup of tea away from the bedside. I didn't want to venture far and was kindly offered a cup of tea by staff , but I wanted to eat and I was aware that the child next to me was fasting. We found a space. But I felt the ward could really benefit from a space. Could be outside the ward even, an unused office in the corridor (if there is such a thing).

All in all a very positive experience and thank you for your work 😊
