"EMDR for PTSD treatment"

About: Adult Mental Health Community / City South Local Mental Health Team (LMHT) Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Step 4 Psychotherapy Service

(as the patient),

I went through two terror attacks and then sadly another whilst waiting for PTSD therapy. On top of this I had CSA, unexpected deaths, drug issues, relationship trauma etc. which has never been dealt with. In my head, I was broken. I believed the untrusting/angry/scared person was now just me. I couldn't stop thinking about the past, day or night, it took up 90% of my time.

I eventually got help. Assessment was a little harsh, the nurse seemed to find me irritating.

I was offered EMDR therapy in Nottingham via Step 4. My 1st therapist only lasted a month, they started dictating what papers to read, not having an opinion that is different to theirs, things which you just shouldn't ever say to a trauma patient.

3 months wait, and I got the best therapist, David.

We have worked systematically through my issues. I feel I can speak my mind with him, even though I know we have some different views, and that is key to any communication. The technique is bizarre at first, but, once you understand what it is doing, it makes sense. For each of my topics of distress. we worked through week after week.

I feel safe with David, I trust him, he sees my worst and hears things many would struggle with. He does a superb job and is a credit to his profession. I see light and an end to the tunnel. A massive change for me. Thank you David, you change peoples lives for the better.
