"Amazing Maternity Staff and Birth Experience"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I have been in and out of the hospital over the last 8 months due to a difficult pregnancy.

Every-time we went in for monitoring, tests and routine check ups we were met with top level care support and understanding. We cannot fault the midwives, doctors and staff based in Ward 16, labour ward and the pregnancy unit.

We ended up with an unplanned C-section and ended up staying in hospital for 7 days following the birth of my son and the midwives went above and beyond to help and make us feel prepared and rested. Everything was explained and reassurance given when necessary so we felt at ease.

The theatre team who helped prepare me and deliver my son via C-section were outstanding. The whole process was smooth and they made myself and my partner feel calm and at ease by explaining all that was happening during the process and focusing on a safe relaxed and magical birth experience. I can’t thank them enough.

All the midwives were amazing and work hard to support all new and expecting mothers. My son ended up needing light therapy for his jaundice and Lynn one of the midwives stood and helped settle him for 2 hours when I was struggling to stay awake so I could sleep. I will forever appreciate this more than she knows.

Alison deserves a raise, she works tirelessly to make sure everyone feels welcomed, supported and informed and I appreciate her helping me after my section and through the week long stay. I felt like family.

I’d also like a special mention to Nicky and Rachel who were amazing with my transition onto Ward 16 and during most nights helping me with breast feeding support and a level of care that meant I felt safe and comfortable in all situations. Nicky also helped by taking my son for a short period overnight to allow me to rest which I will be forever grateful for.

I wish I could thank each midwife, doctor and staff member individually. I am grateful for them making my pregnancy, birth and recovery a positive and supported experience as well as keeping me and my son safe.

They deserve recognition and reward for all that they do. I cannot fault the maternity care team.

Dear JoJacob,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. Your kind and thoughtful words mean a great deal to our team.

We’re truly honoured to have supported you throughout your pregnancy, birth, and recovery. It’s heartening to hear that the care provided by our midwives, doctors, and staff in Ward 16, the labour ward, and the pregnancy unit made such a positive impact during what was clearly a challenging time.

Your recognition of individual team members—Lynn, Alison, Nicky, and Rachel—will be shared with them and the wider team.

We’re especially glad that you felt safe, supported, and cared for during your C-section and hospital stay. Creating a calm and reassuring environment is something we strive for, and your feedback affirms the importance of that goal.

Thank you again for your generous words. We wish you and your family continued health and happiness, and we’re grateful to have been part of your journey.
