"Delays in obtaining medication"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as the patient),

Attended scheduled appointment at 8:30 am. Dealt with in entirely professional & friendly manner.

I required medication to take home with me, for which the prescription was taken up to the hospital pharmacy dept at approx 10:10 am. The prescription was finally made up after 12:39, following numerous requests by members of the endoscopy nursing team.

Surely your systems & processes should be organised in a more efficient manner to avoid delays of over two hours & the reallocation of important nursing staff to obtain medication from the hospital pharmacy.

I think that one solution could be to give the patient the prescription to take to an external pharmacy, thereby allowing a much earlier discharge & the better use of nursing staff.
