"Great service but the wait time for surgery is exhausting and painful"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 26, 27, 61 & 62 )

(as a carer),

I care for my mum who is on on an urgent waiting list for hip replacement surgery. The nurses and doctors were great when they assessed her, but it's been almost three months now with no date for surgery or updates. I thought that NHS Scotland had the ability to offer private treatment when it was urgent yet no one has offered this to my mum. She waited in agony and the painkillers do nothing now too ease the pain. Is it a matter of waiting and struggling till we get a letter? I have no idea who to speak to about this as when i call i get told she just had to wait. Her health is deteriorating day be day.

Dear Sasha49

Thank you for getting in touch and for sharing your concerns about your mum’s wait for hip replacement surgery. I’m very sorry to hear how much pain she’s in and how difficult this has been for both of you.

Unfortunately, waiting times for orthopaedic procedures across NHS Scotland have increased significantly in recent years. We understand how frustrating and distressing it is to wait without clear updates. With your mum's permission, f you telephone: 0141 201 3730 with your mum's details, they will be able to provide you with an update.

Thank you

Nicole
