"Attitude of consultant"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

Rather Uncaring attitude of consultant who I had not seen before.  I have seen Registrars since my previous and extremely caring rheumatologist retired. Previous appointments have been reassuring and caring.  Blood results were not discussed thoroughly on this occasion  so I tried to access online when I got home.  Some results were present  but tests on my blood count and paraprotein information (MGus) etc. were not available.

I reported that I had been feeling more  tired/exhausted. Blood results on thyroid were unsatisfactory (clearly this was reason for extreme tiredness) : no recommendations from consultant other than they did not want to reduce the dose  but would write to GP.

They then said they believed I also had fibromyalgia (on top of auto immune diseases) but that there was no information available for me to take so consultant wrote names of  websites on paper and told me to look it up.

Did not want to discuss other query re dry eye/treatment and told me in future to go to GP or Eye Hospital.  I am an elderly woman and have been a patient of Rheumatology for many years.  I was puzzled at why the consultant diagnosed fibromyalgia when my thyroid was needing attention because over medicating with thyroxine makes you very tired as does undermedicating.

I will go to a Nutritionist for help with my diet re fibromyalgia.  I have slightly reduced my thyroxine meds and am beginning to feel better. I will see GP later. I left this appointment feeling rather a nuisance and a waste of oxygen!
