"Burn to my child's legs"

About: St Andrews Community Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a service user),

I called 111 as was told to attend an appointment at a certain time on the Monday morning only to find that we were just in a queue of minor injuries like everyone else that had walked in. What was the point of someone giving an appointment and me waiting for this time in the morning when I could have left immediately to be seen then and there?

This particular service needs work. Patient expectation could be managed over the phone and I could have come prepared to sit and keep my son entertained. It is completely frustrating!

Good Afternoon Hilzx53,

I want to thank you for providing this valuable feedback, it is really helpful to hear from the patient/service user perspective.

I am so sorry for your experience, and I fully acknowledge that this could have gone better and would like to provide you assurance that we will learn from this.

We are currently in the process of transitioning the calls received from NHS24 to be assessed over the phone by the Emergency Nurse Practitioners at St Andrews. It is our hope that this will improve the patient journey when attending a scheduled appointment for Minor Injury Care in the near future.

I do hope your child received the treatment they required for their burn and that they make a swift recovery.

Best Wishes

Fran
