"End of life care in the community"

About: Ayr General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a relative),

We had a family member discharged home after having being diagnosed with cancer and was terminally ill, up until this point our beloved family member was very well and living an independent life.

Once home our family member became very unwell within days. As a family we cannot say enough about the whole team who were part of delivering care. From the doctors at Tam's Brig surgery to all of the community nursing team, not just Lorraine or Roberta, there were other staff members who came in at out of hours, all of these staff members were so kind and gentle, completely respectful and genuine. I'm sorry but I don't remember everyone's name, but you all were tremendous, compassionate and so tender to our family member.

I don't think we appreciate the job these staff members have, they had never met any of us before, yet worked so hard and diligently to deliver the best care we could have hoped for. This will stay with us and give us comfort in the time ahead. Our family member was only 1 person on their caseload, yet they never wavered in providing all aspects of care. We as a family appreciate how hard the job must be on this fantastic staff, as working so close with death and dying while juggling all their other caseload.

We would like to say thanks to each and every individual staff member that our family met throughout this awful journey, and definitely made an awful situation the very best it could be, thanks you so much.

Dear Skater13

Please accept my sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your family member. It is an extremely difficult time when we lose a loved one and we appreciate you taking the time and trouble to provide us with this feedback.

It is reassuring to know that this stressful time was made somewhat easier by the outstanding care and support your family member and yourselves received in their final days.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and their families and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Team in the Tams Brig Surgery and also with the Community Nursing Team. I know they will be delighted to receive this feedback and it will be really encouraging for them to know that you felt so well supported by them.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience, particularly at such a sad and difficult time.

Kind Regards

Pamela
