My relative was admitted to the Victoria Hospital and following various ward moves ended up on Ward 6.
I was disappointed and saddened following the day I went to visit my relative.
I found my relative sitting in a chair with no lower half clothing on and only a top. My relative was also left with a meal in front of them to eat and they were clearly in no capable state to consume the meal independently. I dressed my relative, brushed their hair and wiped their face. I then proceeded to spend the next hour and 15 minutes spoon feeding my relative who had very poor intake over the previous few days.
Upon asking for an update from the doctor regarding the care of my relative, the response I received was rude and condescending. The doctor stated I was to ask nurses for an update on my relative. When I informed the doctor the nurses informed me they don't know any medical updates, I was then informed they weren't caring for my relative therefore didn't have time to speak to me.
I was also told my relative was on a discharge ward and there was no such thing as a ward round so I shouldn't ever approach the medical room for an update. I was then told to stand back from the door as it was a private room with confidential information in it. Note I had literally knocked at the door to ask if I could speak to anyone regarding my relative as I had been informed by nursing staff they didn't know anymore than what was on their handover sheet.... of which was minimal.
