"We are thankful for the care and professionalism"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity

(as the patient),

I just want to express my sincere gratitude towards the staff at the QUEH for ensuring the safe birth of my son last month. The staff and particularly the midwife Lesley were simply outstanding.

I didn't experience my first child's birth in full due to the pandemic (robbed of the experience) and specific restrictions, therefore I was experiencing this process fully for the first time. I was apprehensive, nervous, all the typical feelings and emotions associated with the equally most important moment in my life.

The way the staff made me and my wife feel was truly special and more so reassuring and settling. The care and expertise of the staff was nothing short of incredible. From knowing our names, being attentive, calming and reassuring, it really helped to dispel nerves.

Our midwife (Lesley) was warm, personable, caring, understanding, an amazing professional (best practice). We were truly blessed to have such an amazing person and team around us.

The operating theatre where my son was birthed was surrounded by an exquisite team who all worked in tandem, everything meticulous and our baby boy was delivered safely. Even in the height of the most important element (just before he was born by C section, there was music playing on the radio and the staff were singing away gently to which me and wife joined in! Its the small things.)

The anaesthetist (John) was a pillar of professionalism and really reassuring. I didn't capture the name of the doctor who delivered our son but she was incredible. Her concentration, accuracy and care was fabulous...we are truly grateful.

It has been three weeks since the birth of my son and he is thriving. I want to conclude saying a massive thank you and more so for Lesley the midwife. She is an incredible professional & should be recognised for her best practice and care (students should witness this).

Everyone can be excellent at their jobs (and whilst this is essential) but it in this line of work it is the way you make people feel (even when you're tired, burned out, pressed for time...it was never a burden for Lesley).  The NHS has a true star in the lady.

We are thankful for her that the stars aligned that day she was with us for a truly memorable moment. Thank you to everyone

Dear Dad of 2,

Thank you so much for your heartfelt message and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are incredibly proud to hear that your journey through the birth of your son at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital was filled with care, professionalism, and warmth.

Your words capture the essence of what we strive for every day — to make families feel safe, supported, and truly cared for during one of the most important moments of their lives. We are especially delighted to hear how Lesley made such a meaningful impact. Her compassion, dedication, and professionalism shine through in everything she does, and your recognition of her best practice is deeply appreciated.

We also want to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of the wider team — the operating theatre staff, the anaesthetist John, and the doctor who was at the birth of your son. Their teamwork, attention to detail, and gentle presence clearly made a lasting impression, and we are grateful for your kind words.

Moments like the one you described — singing together in the theatre — remind us that it’s often the small gestures that leave the biggest mark. Thank you for reminding us of the power of kindness and connection.

We’re thrilled to hear your son is thriving and wish your family continued joy and good health. Your feedback will be shared with the team and will mean so much to everyone involved.

Warmest regards,
Gaynor Bird
