My word. Have I ever experienced anything like labour! However… I was admitted to the midwife unit- there aren’t enough words allowed in this review to describe the level of care, support and LOVE we experienced throughout. I will FOREVER hold in my heart the ladies in the midwife unit that took us through to becoming a father, mother, and grandmother. We were terrified and clueless and lead into a room lit with candles and a massive rainbow on the wall - I believe the Poppy suite - I never expected such a beautiful setting to give birth in. But the biggest shock for all of us came from the unbelievable support from the 2 ladies in the room with us. The entire journey of becoming, what I felt was, a family from that second of stepping in the room. With information on what would happen, pain relief and genuine calm, we were able to embrace the experience and feel comfort in what were, my scariest moments. I was entirely dependent on 2 women I had never met and yet instantly had so much faith and trust in.
Throughout the entire experience all 3 of us had utter trust in everything they said and did, and I managed to deliver in record time (entirely down to the expertise in equipment and positioning knowledge from the midwife) regardless of my reluctance, a beautiful daughter. They took the first photos of us as a new family and quickly and safely provided incredible medical attention within seconds to ensure our safety. I was in utter disbelief of the teamwork and commitment of the 2, and when I needed further medical attention, Katie got a second opinion without delay to ensure my safety and recovery. I, my partner, mum and my baby daughter, will Forever be in debt for the service that the midwife unit provided on that evening and for the duration of our stay. We were quickly moved to OUR OWN ROOM!!! Which to our surprise was entirely ours and remained ours for as long as we needed. The room has become what I will forever remember as a happy place for me. With continued support, care and love from the entire team. I never wanted to leave. There is not one thing that the team could have done to provide more support and improve. They clearly don’t see the roles as a job but a lifestyle, and again I cannot provide enough thanks on behalf of my FAMILY! Thanks to them we seamlessly became a family in the matter of seconds. Which will forever be cherished by us all.
Also, an extra thanks to Katie and Alice, the doctor supporting my post-partum stitching, for such an incredible job. Terrified to look but absolutely delighted with the results of what I expected to be the biggest trauma.
Girls, you will forever be such a crucial and important part of our lives. Things could have been entirely different and I’m sure a horrific experience. However, I will never forget. I wish all of you all the best, as you gave us. No hug can be big enough for what you did for us over those few days. And once again, from a family you fused in those scary, new, and daunting moments, thank you.
