My first hip replacement was carried out 36 years ago. Unfortunately, in my late 80s it finally gave out. I underwent surgery to replace the original hip replacement in June. The surgery went well, but it was a very challenging procedure and I was hospitalised for a week. I am extremely grateful to the brilliant surgeon, and the rest of the team at Basingstoke hospital for outstanding care.
I was put on a catheter and because I do have an issue with my prostate, my bladder became lazy as a result of being on the catheter for a week and I had to be discharged with a flip flow valve, and to be catheterised overnight. Hopefully this will be short term!
I have since received amazing support from the local district nursing team - ie Winchester Rural South District Nursing, and in particular Nurse Jackie. Apart from recuperating from the surgery, and having to use a catheter, I had a fall and injured my other leg and have had to have this leg attended to. Jackie was the first nurse to visit and apart from being in awe of her expertise and efficiency, she made us feel so comfortable in her presence. This wonderful lady has been a rock to both myself, and my wife.
