I recently had to contact NHS 24 overnight with symptoms of an acute bowel obstruction. The call handler, Aiden, and nurse, Michelle, were excellent, both very knowledgeable and professional and dealt with my concern promptly by signposting me on to ED at Forth Valley Royal.
When I arrived at ED I was triaged within 5 minutes by 2 nurses, Jennifer and Cheryl who were both excellent. They transferred me round to a trolley for review. I was looked after by a staff nurse called Rhona and HCSW Tracy. Both staff were so friendly and caring and looked after me so well.
Rhona arranged for treatment almost immediately to relieve my symptoms. I was grateful for their caring nature as I was on my own during this admission, and at times due to the pain and nausea felt very frightened.
After a few hours in ED and review by medical staff, I was transferred up to SAU for further investigations. I was looked after by Adam and Amanda, who again were so professional and attentive. At times where I was sore, or feeling nauseated, they were there almost immediately administering medication, and this was all despite the unit being exceptionally busy.
Luckily I only had to be in hospital for 24 hours and my care was transferred to an outpatient setting with the GI team, but my experience during this admission was so positive and I am exceptionally grateful for the care I received. As a nurse myself, being admitted and treated can be a scary and daunting experience being on the other side, however I was cared for exceptionally within Forth Valley.
"I was cared for exceptionally"
