"Losing a loved one"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 49, 63, 64, 65, 66,& 67)

(as a service user),

To the Staff of Glasgow Royal Infirmary,

After taking some time to grieve the loss of my wife, Barbara, I would now like to extend my deepest thanks to the incredible team who cared for her during her battle with pancreatic cancer.

From Mr. Dickson’s team to the nursing and healthcare staff—thank you. Your professionalism, dedication, and kindness did not go unnoticed. Barbara’s passing came sooner than we expected, and she sadly died on Ward 64.

I would especially like to thank the nurses who cared for her on her final evening and the night before—Leanna and Eilidh. Not only did you provide impeccable care to Barbara, but the empathy, warmth and compassion you extended to my son and me was truly extraordinary. In those final, difficult moments, the compassion shown to our family was a comfort I can never fully express in words. You embody everything that makes a nurse exceptional, and you are both tremendous assets to your ward.

With sincere gratitude, Barbara’s Family

Dear Barbara's Husband

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt tribute to Barbara and the care she received at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. We are deeply sorry for your loss and appreciate you taking the time to recognise the dedication and kindness of Mr Dickson’s team, the nursing staff, and healthcare professionals who supported Barbara and your family during this profoundly difficult time.

Leanna, Eilidh, and the entire team on Ward 64 will be touched to hear that their compassion and empathy brought comfort to you and your son in Barbara’s final days. It is an honour to provide care with such humanity, and your words are a powerful reminder of the impact this can have on families.

Please accept our sincere condolences and gratitude for your thoughtful message in this sad time.

Kind regards

Kevin
