"First ever surgery"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Very quick back story -  due to my job, my elbow had become badly damaged and after 4 injections in 3 years unfortunately wasn’t getting any better. After my appointment, the decision was made to have surgery on it.

Getting booked in, you just have to wait for the call, once your date is offered the letter comes out with the number to phone to confirm it, this is done to a voicemail service, so being my first time having I was panicking if I’d spoken correctly and my name was definitely confirmed haha.

Surgery day arrived and from the second I walked through the doors the ladies on the ward were incredible, 10/10. The reception staff were friendly/smiley/helpful even when I mentioned the voicemail and panicking they put me at ease saying they would have phoned me to make sure I wanted it.

Steph who was my nurse at the beginning was super friendly, chatty and helped put me at ease, 1 of many times throughout the day.

It’s hard to put into words how the whole day went, but from when the anaesthetist came going through how it would all go, Steph then came back round to make sure I had understood everything and to make sure there’s nothing I had forgotten to ask, same with Dr Sharma, had I understood it all etc.

When I went down to surgery I was starting to panic but again they made it so easy and put me at ease very very quickly

Surgery done!! And I was back on the ward the ladies were round checking on me frequently all with a smile and chat the tea and toast was great. I did unfortunately have to stay a bit longer as the pain was pretty severe and they wanted to get it under control before being released but this was all done as swiftly as possible

Honestly can’t thank everyone enough, from the minute I walked in to the minute I left this just shines a light on how good the NHS is and how good the staff are. While I hope I never have to return (in a good way haha),  if I did I know I would be in the best possible hands and care thank you so much
