"Waiting for over 1 hour and 30 mins for appt"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / North West Cancer Centre

(as the patient),

Had an appointment at 3pm. It is now 16.20 and I have still not been seen.

There does not seem to be a system of check-in at haematology at NW Cancer Centre Derry. Nurses are up and down asking for different people who don’t even seem to be here. Other people being taken for blood tests then doctors running up and down corridor looking for them.

Absolutely no organisation or system at this dept. Organised chaos and very disappointing. Other people I have spoken with feel the same.

I work to identify, develop and implement a range of service improvement initiatives within cancer services across the Western HSC Trust. I work alongside the range of colleagues from the multi professional team in North West Cancer Centre to support service outcomes through service improvement activities.

Dear John60

My name is Debbie Hunter and I am the Service Improvement Lead in the North West Cancer Centre.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience within our department.

We welcome and value all feedback.

I am very sorry to hear that you experienced a delay in your appointment time on Monday and had to wait for so long, however we can face challenges from time to time.

I have shared your story with the nursing manager, nursing team and admin booking team from this department. I would like to assure you that we will review systems of check in to understand where we can improve.

Once again thank you for taking the time to share your experience on care opinion. I hope my reply has helped to resolve your concerns however if you remain dissatisfied with my response you can escalate further by either linking with the clinic manager when attending your appointments or by contacting the WHSCT’s complaints department by email on Complaints.Department@westerntrust.hscni.net

Wishing you well

Debbie Hunter
