Im in my 80’s and partially sighted. After I’d had several falls, I was referred to the falls clinic at Mullinure Hospital, Armagh, by my GP.
I was given an appointment and taken on time. I saw nurses, a doctor, a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist and everyone was highly professional and lovely. A special thank you to the nursing sister who persuaded me to come back for sessions of physio and organised that I get a morning care visit from carers every day now.
For me this had been amazing. Not only does this provide practical help, sometimes the carers are the only people I see in a day as, though I have great local friends, my family all live further afield. The service make a me feel safe and valued.
Im particularly aware of the huge pressures services in N.Ireland are under compared to the rest of the UK, so that makes me feel extra grateful to have this service.
With my sight impairment and other health issues, the support means I can continue to live independently in my own home. Sometimes a little bit of support can be life changing.
