I was referred to Dr Skanning after long history of recurring thrush, I've complained to my GP and Gynaecologist about my persistent symptoms for years but was often dismissed or given cannesten duo despite recurring symptoms hinting that if wasn't effective.
Meeting Dr Skanning was the first time I've felt heard, which is refreshing considering how much my condition has impacted my quality of life. She was informative, patient, helped me understand my body and what impacts it and didn't dismiss my concerns. She informed me about resistant strains, services that are available for survivors of sexual trauma to ensure my comfort, and ordered tests to get to the root of my problem
In a world where women's health is ridiculously underfunded, where we aren't educated on our bodies and how to take care of ourselves, the sexual health clinics are an essential part of the services offered. Especially when GPs are overwhelmed and unable to give in depth help or treatment, I feel we need specialised clinics now more than ever.
