"A follow up call from my GP"

About: Grand Union Health Centre

(as the patient),

I knew the results were bad and that my diabetes sugar figures had very likely increased. I knew this because I’d received a message from my GP practice saying that my test results required a further test. In all likelihood this was negative diabetes news and I was upset and not looking forward to the call from my GP pharmacy team. I was really nervous about it and didn’t want to hear the news which I assumed was bad following a diabetic review.

Luckily for me it was Fahim who called me. Fahim has a really excellent manner of speech. He did not catastrophise the situation but rather praised me for having previously well controlled my diabetes whilst clearly informing me that the latest figures around cholesterol and sugars were not where ‘we ‘ wanted to be and what I’d like to improve. I said I knew my diet had become very bad and lazy recently and I thought that that was where I could and should make changes. Rather than feeling depressed and hopeless and angry with myself Fahim made me feel very supported and even confident that I will put it right.

So we will do another test in three months and I’m confident we will see an improvement. Fahim has chosen the right career for himself no doubt about it and I consider that both myself and the NHS are lucky that we have Fahim. Thank you again Fahim
