I wanted to acknowledge how helpful and supportive my health visitor, Sarah, in Perth has been over the last 5 years. From 2020 when my son was born during lockdown, to recent years with support with food intolerances and speech delay, and getting ready for school transition, her kindness and willingness to offer help and support whenever needed has been invaluable.
She has fulfilled every visit, even additional ones at my request, nearly all face to face to face allowing her to build a relationship with my family. Especially in the early days her non judgemental and friendly manner was so needed as a new and anxious mum, and for that I am so grateful. She has been nothing but supportive to me and my son, and I can’t stress enough how important her role as a health visitor is.
I know from conversations with other local mums, not every mother has had the same experience as me and I am so grateful to have had someone like Sarah who absolutely values the crucial role she plays in early years for mum and child, even when I know lockdown and staffing pressures and service restrictions have made this incredibly difficult for health visitors.
Every family should be able to have the same level of care and I thought it was important to acknowledge the good but also stress how important it is to get this right.
