"We felt so safe and comforted"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was adamant to have my baby in Aberdeen because I wanted the epidural but things didn’t go exactly to plan and ended up having her on the side of the road trying to get to Aberdeen. The care and support during my pregnancy was just simply wonderful. Not a single one of the amazing midwives at Dr Grays made me feel anything other than assured and safe and looked after.

During my very quick and unexpected delivery of the baby in my husband’s car we had the midwives on the phone the entire time giving my husband clear and comforting words and walking him through every step. They were so calm and supportive helping me through the contractions and trying to figure out just how close I was.

We felt so safe and comforted knowing they were on the other end of the phone and almost felt like they were there with us in the car helping us get our baby out safely.

When we got back to Dr Grays with the ambulance I can’t even express the feeling of warmth and almost home like feeling I felt straight away from all the wonderful midwives that were waiting there to help us after delivering our baby via phone call! The aftercare felt like I was being looked after by family and friends. Being so sleep deprived I was struggling during the night and I can’t express how grateful I was that the baby was taken out the room and looked after whilst I got a few hours sleep.

Every single thing was absolute magic and I am forever grateful to all the wonderful midwives that helped us and comforted us that night! It’s been 2 days of being home and I keep telling my husband I’m homesick and want to go back to ward 3! Thank you from the absolute bottom of our hearts for making every single thing about that experience perfect - you guys are truly amazing!
