"The treatment of my partner"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Xrays and Scans

(as a relative),

My partner suffered an injury to her leg at our house. Whilst not broken, she had a large open wound.

We attended QEUH A&E and checked and were triaged within 30 mins. The triage nurse, Kayleigh and her student, were both fantastic. They were exactly what you think a nurse should be.

Following triage, my partner was sent for an x-ray and thankfully there were no broken bones. She did however require 7 stitches. Following the x-ray, we were treated by Gemma the ANP. Again she was excellent in calming my partner down, explaining the situation and then stitching up her leg. We were discharged just before 1am.

It was also an interesting observation that we did not see a Doctor throughout our care. Whilst some people would instantly want to see a Doctor, the injury and treatment were able to be dealt with by the nursing staff which I think is a positive example of how the system should work at its best.

As someone who works in the NHS and is aware of the pressure throughout, particularly at the front door, I was incredibly proud of the way in which my partner's care was delivered.

This was one of the best, if not the best, experience of A&E I or my partner have experienced. This is 99% because of the staff and how they dealt with the situation. Both Kayleigh, her student, and Gemma are an absolute credit to their profession.

Dear fluterg47,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am delighted to hear that your partner received such excellent care after visiting our department.

We are incredibly proud of our team, and it is lovely to know that Kayleigh, her student, and Gemma provided the compassionate and professional care that we strive for. Your kind words about their ability to calm, explain, and treat your partner's injury are truly appreciated and I will share this fabulous feedback with them.

Thank you for acknowledging the efficiency and effectiveness of our very experienced nursing staff who work autonomously as independent practitioners providing excellent care to their patients.

As someone who works within the NHS, your recognition of the pressures we face and your praise for our staff's performance means a great deal to us. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care, even in challenging circumstances.

Thank you once again for your lovely feedback. We wish your partner a speedy recovery and hope that you both continue to stay safe and well.

With kind regards,

Karen
