"I felt totally dismissed"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency

(as the patient),

I came in under the advice of my GP due to having episodes that looked and felt like a seizure, this was very troubling to me as I am very anxious to go to the hospital even as a visitor.

When I got seen by the triage nurse, she was very helpful and listened to my concerns. However, when I got to see the doctor, they told me that I was just a woman and having man troubles and totally dismissed me.

I had a video of the episode and the doctor would not look at it due to it being a waste of time, they told me they would not do any further testing as if I had epilepsy or any kind of seizure disorder I would not be allowed to drive and suggested that I would not like that. I left feeling scared as I still don't have an idea what is wrong.

The doctor prescribed antihistamines to me and I have no idea what they are for. They then noticed I had a chest infection and changed their diagnosis to me hyperventilating due to a chest infection.

Dear Areo123

I have spoken to the ED consultant regarding this care opinion. He has advised that your are absolutely right and that your video should have been viewed and it would be unusual that this would not be the case.

Apologies that this did not happen. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss further 02894424000 ext 334546
