My brother was discharged recently from Ward 22 University Hospital Monklands. Once again his care was second to none in this ward. Ward Manager Margaret and her nursing staff are absolutely excellent. When transferred to this ward he wasn’t getting up even to sit in a chair as he had been so very ill after requiring a blood transfusion. He has terminal cancer and suffers from dementia. Margaret and her excellent nurses and clinical support workers managed to get him up, only for a short time at the beginning and only walking a couple of steps to his chair however over a few days he was walking in to the toilet with the assistance of the staff looking after him and he never looked back.
He was discharged recently with a full package of care. Margaret ordered him a hospital bed and table which is brilliant, when he got home he was so happy to see the bed which is much lower than his own was and he didn’t have to struggle to get in to it. He and the rest of our family cannot thank Margaret and her nursing staff enough. He was happy in the ward, he said that although he loved being there his wish was to get home and with the constant help and support he received from Margaret and her staff he was able to get his wish.
This is truly a five star ward with a five star ward manager, five star nursing staff and five star clinical support workers. Margaret should be very proud of herself and her team. I know that I am and always will be eternally grateful.
"This is truly a five star ward"
