"Rose Clinic - BHSCT"

About: Belfast Health & Social Care Trust / The Rose Clinic

(as a service user),

We found ourselves in the position of an unplanned pregnancy, and sadly due to various reasons and circumstances, it was not possible to continue the pregnancy. We contacted the Rose Clinic through BPAS (British Pregnancy Advisory Service), from start to finish, we were treated with care and sensitivity. All staff whether clerical or medical were kind and compassionate and supported us throughout, we never felt any judgement, just care and support.

We were initially contacted by a midwife via telephone, to get some initial information, to ask any questions and talk through some options. We were reassured that anything we decided over the phone was not definitive, that if we needed more time, we could send them a text message and postpone if needed. An initial appointment was set up for a week later (due to surgical only being available on certain days), during all appointments everything was handled very discreetly and confidentially, we never felt judged at any point. Everything was explained well and the process was relatively straightforward.

During the procedure, my partner waited in another room (which I was thankful for), and it was over relatively quickly, while I did find it painful, I was given gas and air which made it more bearable. The medical team that were with me were so supportive, holding my hand, playing music to distract me and kept me talking. After, I was able to recover in the same room as my partner and was given tea and biscuits. After a quick check about 30 mins after we were able to go home.

I want to thank the whole team for their care and professionalism. My only thoughts for improvement would be, throughout the whole process, the counselling service was not mentioned, this is something that I feel would have been useful for after to help us process what we went through, but we are unsure of how to contact this team.

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at the Rose Clinic. We're so glad you got the care and support you needed at that time from our Team.

If you felt that it would help to access counselling services at this point, Informing Choices NI offer free, local post abortion counselling via phone or face-to-face on 02890 316 100. They also offer non-directional pregnancy choices counselling if you ever felt that you needed that in the future.

We hope you're doing well and thank you again for providing feedback - it's helpful for other women who are considering accessing our service and lets them know they can expect compassionate, discreet care.
