"Full knee replacement"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Orthopaedic Ward B23 Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

Had surgery with epidural and light sedation so was aware of procedure but in no pain. Surgery very successful. Many thanks due to surgeon who took on my op from a colleague who had had to go home due to injury.

Recovery going extremely well with exercises. I was quite ill for a couple of days after returning home the day following the op. This was entirely due to very bad reaction to morphine based pain meds. Husband called paramedics who solved the problem by my going on to lighter meds.

Dear Mary274,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience following your surgery and recovery. I’m so pleased to hear that the procedure went well and that you’re recovering steadily with the help of your exercises.

While the Scottish Ambulance Service played only a small part in your overall care, I’m glad our paramedics were able to support you during a difficult moment at home.

It’s also lovely to see your appreciation for the wider team involved in your care—from the surgical and recovery teams to your husband, who acted quickly to get you the help you needed.

Wishing you continued progress in your recovery, and thank you again for your kind message.

Warm regards,
Marie Kennedy
