My newborn son recently got admitted to ward 6 through A&E. The care he received was outstanding, the senior paediatrics nurse, Jennifer, made myself and my husband feel so heard.
Jennifer was extremely thorough in our son’s examinations and even though he examined well, she done bloods which came back to show he had an infection.
Jennifer’s level of care and compassion really reassured my husband and I that our son was in the best hands. She sang to him, hugged him and talked to him.
Once our son’s blood results were back, Jennifer and her colleagues didn’t hang about and got him started on his iv antibiotics immediately. The next morning Jennifer was straight back in to check how we all were doing and talk us through what to expect in the next 24/48hrs. We always felt like she genuinely cared.
I can’t remember all the staff who cared for our son during his 48hrs on ward 6, but a few of the names that stood out to me were nurse Gaynor on day shift she was so lovely and introduced herself and had such a caring manner. Debbie the assistant nurse on day shift went over and beyond for me as a breastfeeding mother making sure I was well nourished at meal times and bringing me water. Night shift sister Juna was also incredibly kind and caring not just to my son but to me also.
I am grateful for the excellent care my son received on this ward, somewhere that I really didn’t want to be but was made feel safe and reassured so thank you for your kindness.
