"Radiotherapy Review: Understanding and Care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Breast Services Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Radiotherapy

(as a service user),

I had a telephone appointment last year to follow up on radiotherapy treatment I’d had at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  I was called by Erica , from Radiotherapy, in mid 2024, and this is a very belated post to thank Erica for her excellent care!  (Apologies it’s taken so long.)

The review call was very thorough, and Erica ended the call with some questions about how I was feeling about my diagnosis, which is something I didn’t expect to be covered.  At that point I’d already benefitted from some support from Maggie’s Centre and CLAN Cancer Support so I felt I was starting to get my head around things.

I wasn’t coping so well with some side effects from my radiotherapy and felt these hadn’t been fully addressed by the Breast Care Team (who had helped me with multiple other issues and queries).

Erica readily recognised my issue related to radiation fibrosis.  She was able to refer me to the Chronic Oedema Service Clinic for some further advice and I had a couple of appointments which helped provide me with more support and useful information to help cope with this.  I was also fortunate enough to be able to arrange some specialist Physiotherapy privately, which has helped a great deal too.

I’m very grateful to Erica for her understanding and care.  I’m finally feeling much better from these side effects and appreciate all her help.
