"Neuro wait times"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurology (Ward 53 and 67)

(as the patient),

I had a CT scan of my head in November which I was advised within 48 hours was abnormal by my GP. This scan took place due to loss of balance resulting in falls, dizzy spells and severe headaches.

I was advised that the next steps from this would be a review by the neurology team and the QEUH and a head and neck MRI. The symptoms have not resolved yet and I remain on a waiting list for both a review and the MRI.

I have been advised by a secretary at the Neuro team my appointment is non urgent and the wait time is 68 weeks!!! I am a young fit female with two children and feel these wait times are shocking. This may not be urgent to the system but to me it is as I have no health conditions and this came on quite suddenly.

My GP continues to tell me his hands are tied and that Neuro make the decisions on when they see people.

Dear Sus1982

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch via Care Opinion.
We understand how distressing it can be to live with ongoing symptoms while waiting for further investigation and review. The increasing demand on our services has led to longer waiting times than we would like.

Patients are prioritised based on clinical need, with the most urgent cases seen first. This process is carefully considered and not taken lightly. Please be assured we are doing our best, within the resources available, to see everyone as soon as possible.

If you can contact my colleague, Amy O’Sullivan, Clinical Services Manager, they will provide you with an update. You can contact Amy @ amy.osullivan@nhs.scot, it would be helpful if you could include your personal details.

Thank you

Nicole
