"No supply so have to use worse treatments"

About: Sexual Health Services - South Staffordshire (Open Clinic)

(as the patient),

The staff are respectfully and professional. Only problem is, for the last 3 visits they have not had the proper freeze spray to treat me and are having to use over the counter treatments. These treatments aren't anywhere near as effective and cause me a lot of discomfort. I've repeatedly asked when they will receive a supply of the correct spray and no one knows. I feel that this isn't good enough as a patient I don't see why I'm made to suffer when this spray is readily available in other health departments.

Hi BONZO 2658

My name is Suzie Sellberg and I work for OpenClinic as a Nurse Team Leader. Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. I am sorry you are not happy with the treatment you received in relation to treating your condition. I am pleased to report that we now have the appropriate liquid nitrogen (freezing spray) back in stock following issues with the supplier. This treatment can be offered at Stafford and Branston, though we cannot offer this for patients attending our Cannock or Tamworth clinics. We offer liquid nitrogen treatment to patients, however the topical treatments (creams) are often more effective, so are not considered inferior. I appreciate you may have tried these in the past and had issued so have not wanted to try them again, however it can be worth exploring and revisiting treatment options. Each patient is different and we try to tailor treatments according to symptoms and patient preference. If you are worried and would like to discuss this, please contact me: suzanne.sellberg@mpft.nhs.uk or tel: 07773 192080. If you have not been able to get a suitable follow up appointment, I am happy to help.

Further to my response above, I wholly apologise that the liquid nitrogen is only available at present in Stafford, not Burton. This is due to procurement and contract issues which we are working hard to resolve. Should you wish to have liquid nitrogen treatment at Stafford clinic instead, please don't hesitate to contact me using the contact details I provided and I can arrange an appointment for you.
