I have been a patient in Lochranza for a long time having treatment for cancer. During one of my relapses, Emily, the play specialist encouraged me to do some activities. Emily has encouraged me to try new things, and distract myself if I am feeling unwell. I have managed to take part in new activities and meet other patients.
Emily encourages me to get out of my room and try things which get me out of my comfort zone but doesn't push me to far. There is always a variety of activities for all ages when Emily is in. Emily is really supportive of my ideas and constantly checks in with me to see what I would like to do, and if I am not feeling up for anything then she comes in for a supportive chat.
I struggle to be on my own so when my mum needs to leave for a break, Emily comes in and supports me. Emily also supports me for scans and new procedures, explaining things so that I understand.
I have ended up in ITU for a period of time and Emily came to see me each day to check how I am, she also regularly updates my beads of courage. Emily always has good banter, but also knows that when I am unwell and she calms me down.
I am neurodivergent and enjoy sensory things, Emily has encouraged this and brought me fairy lights to decorate my room. Emily has been a big part of my journey and it would have been a very different experience without her help and support. Emily goes over and above and does more than what is expected from her.
"Consistent and supportive care"
