"Every aspect was first class"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Plastic Surgery & Burns Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Short Stay Surgery Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Theatres

(as the patient),

Extremely content and highly appreciative.

I recently attended a clinic at Plastic Surgery Unit in ARI for an assessment of a dupuytren's contracture in my left hand. It was an extremely busy clinic. I was processed efficiently and with care, was seen by Mr Ahmed who assessed my hand thoroughly, explained everything clearly and we both agreed that I needed surgery and the aim would be to get me in before Christmas.

Only 2 months later I received an admissions letter. I received a call that morning from the Ward Sister for Short Stay Surgical Unit (Ward 302), asking if I could arrive earlier than planned. I was greeted warmly, shown to the allocated bed, taken through all the pre-op preparations thoroughly and with appropriate discretion.

I was transferred to the operating theatre and met by Mrs Khoury and Senior Theatre Nurse, Chloe, plus a trainee nurse.  Mrs Khoury explained what would happen clearly and concisely, and in a calm, personal and timely manner. Mr Ahmed then appeared, greeted me with appropriate warmness and professionalism, reviewed the hand once again, conferred openly with Mrs Khoury and myself, and finalised the imminent procedure.

It was then over to Chloe and her theatre nurses who  took me through into theatre and completed the final checks ahead of the local anaesthetic and operation. Mrs Khoury led the procedure under the discreet guidance of Mr Ahmed. There were two trainee doctors observing the procedure and it was a delight to hear Mr Ahmed engage with them, explain various aspects and encourage them to ask questions.

I was then back on Ward 302, once again looked after and cared for with appropriate care and thoroughness and discharged that afternoon.

Throughout I was treated warmly, respectfully, with care and thorough attention to detail.  Identity checks were thorough and every procedural step was explained in plain and clear terms. Every aspect was first class.

Dear dupuytren's tale,

Thank you for sharing your experience, it's always nice to receive positive feedback from someone's hospital journey where so many people are involved, I will share this with the theatre team who will be delighted to read it.

I wish you an uneventful and swift recovery, Ann.
