Labour ward staff were absolutely amazing. Advocated for me and listened to me and my partner throughout my labour experience and I have not one bad thing to say about any of them!
Postnatal ward was unfortunately a different experience. Midwives were good, however I had to ask multiple times how long my IVs were going to go on for as I was hoping to get home and the midwives kept avoiding this and not answering stating they would return when confirmed, this was with three different midwives. I eventually asked to speak to a doctor to confirm the plan. I was also left an entire night myself without anyone coming to check on myself or baby, I spent this night very tearful and upsetting as I was feeling overwhelmed.
I heard some staff members on multiple occasions moaning and talking about patients appearance and their partners, also discussing patients who were using their buzzers and asking for help. They were very vocal about how annoying this was to them. I buzzed at 0730 and heard one of them question why I was buzzing at this time and if I knew what time it was. My room was close to the desk that they sat at so I heard them throughout. I also wasn’t given dinner and when a staff member came in to get my plate they realised I didn’t have dinner and said oh you didn’t have any and closed my door, I wasn’t offered anything and had to send my partner to get me food. However I will say one of the maternity support workers was absolutely amazing, you can tell she enjoys her job and never complained about anyone.
Overall St John’s labour ward was amazing, however postnatal ward was disappointing, I also heard staff discussing how short staffed they were so this may have been a factor also.
"Disappointing post natal"
