"Kidney Transplant"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Renal Transplant (Ward 4C)

(as the patient),

I was recently a patient on Ward 4C following a kidney transplant, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the team who cared for me. The vast majority of the staff were absolutely fantastic! They were kind, attentive, professional, and genuinely compassionate. They made a very difficult and emotional experience feel safe and manageable. I felt truly looked after during my stay, and their dedication did not go unnoticed.

In particular, I want to thank two members of staff who were absolutely amazing. Their kindness, reassurance, and calm presence made such a difference to my recovery. They were not only skilled in their care but also incredibly human in their approach, which meant the world to me at such a vulnerable time. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they made me feel seen, heard, and respected.

However, I feel it’s important to be honest about one negative aspect of my care. Unfortunately, my experience was impacted by the attitude and approach of one nurse. I found their manner to be abrupt and, at times, dismissive. I did not feel this nurse treated me with the same level of dignity, respect, or compassion that the rest of the team provided. Their behaviour made me feel uncomfortable and, at times, quite upset which was disheartening given how vulnerable I was post-surgery.

It’s disappointing that one interaction could detract from an otherwise excellent standard of care. I hope this feedback can be taken constructively, as patients deserve consistent, respectful care from each and every staff member, especially during such a critical time in their recovery.

Again, thank you to the incredible team on 4C. Your hard work and kindness made all the difference, and I’ll never forget it.

Dear Conditionerje69

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience following your kidney transplant at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I am pleased to hear that the majority of your care on Ward 4C was positive, and that you felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for during such a significant and emotional time. Your kind words about the team—and in particular, the two staff members who made such a meaningful impact—are greatly appreciated.

However, it is disappointing to learn that you felt uncomfortable and upset due to the attitude of one member of staff, especially during such a vulnerable stage in your recovery. Please be assured that your feedback will be taken seriously and shared with the appropriate senior staff to ensure that this does not happen again. If you would like to discuss this further can you please contact the Senior Charge Nurse on 0141 452 3300.

Best wishes with your recovery.

Nicole
