"Getting Exactly the Right Help"

About: Western Isles Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I have been suffering with a lot of pain in my thumb joints, particularly the right hand. In sheer desperation I self-referred to the physio department in Western Isles Hospital, hoping that they might be able to help. They passed my details on to the OT department, and in very short time, I got an appointment.

I was so relieved to get a set of useful exercises to do for my thumbs, several intersting wee gadgets, and a lot of really helpful advice and information on how to care for my hands and mitigate the pain. Jenny and her student, Emma, were very patient with me, never making me feel that I was being too slow on the uptake, or asking silly questions.

I returned two weeks later for a check up, and to ask all those little questions that had arisen as I practiced my exercises and discovered better ways to use my hands. I am so grateful for the excellent service I have had, and feeling very optimistic that I can better manage my own health and well-being. Many thanks, Jenny and Emma!

Dear Kirsty5

Thank you very much for sharing your recent experience of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services.

I have shared your kind feedback with the two teams involved and they wished me to say thankyou to you as we really appreciate hearing from our patients.

The Physiotherapy department were happy that they were able to signpost you to the right place and that you benefitted so much from the input of the Occupational Therapists involved in your care. Your kind comments have been passed onto the members of the team involved in your care.

Best wishes

Denise Symington
