"The Care I received from the Stroke Ward"

About: Older people's healthcare / Stroke Unit Ward 40

(as a service user),

I wanted to write a huge thank you to Dr Deshpande of the Stroke Ward within Altnagelvin Hospital. I truly believe that without this doctors help, my health would have rapidly declined.

After being treated at The Stroke Ward, I was discharged and sent home a few days later. I was due to have a follow up Doplar test at Radiology and was awaiting further communication of when this would happen. My symptoms had gotten progressively worse day by day to point were I was on the floor crying with severe migraines and being unable to see at points. When I visited my GP, I was told that the severe migraines and tingling in my fingers were caused by Sinusitis - which I did not agree with. I was also told by the GP that they did not think I had the stroke.

After having my Doplar test and having a follow up with Dr Deshpande, I had gone through several tests and had realised that the medication I was initially given needed changed and that the symptoms I was experiencing prior could have been much worse had I not had seen Dr Deshpande. I was very unwell during this time and with my sight and head severely affected I was not able to cope with the symptoms.

I am eternally grateful for the help of Dr Deshpande and truly believe, had I not been seen at that time, then I may have steadily gotten worse.

I cannot thank this doctor enough and he is an absolute credit to Altnagelvin.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
