"Lack of compassion and patient care"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I attended A and E on Sunday with what turned out to be a broken hand.

While the X-ray team were kind and compassionate, the nurse practitioner who saw me laughed. They did not try and dress the cuts and scrapes that were also a result of my fall, did not offer me any pain medication, mumbled something about the bone doctors getting in touch with me, and that was it.

The cast I currently have on my broken hand does not protect the actual break. Worried about this and in considerable pain, I called the hospital today to try to speak to the relevant matron as advised on the hospital website.

I was passed around several departments by the switchboard operator who gave me the wrong information and muttered 'for God's sake' when I had to ask her yet again to put me through. When I did eventually get to speak to a nurse, she said she had to go and ask a doctor and cut me off.

The hospital website is incorrect, it is virtually impossible to speak to a matron and the lack of compassion and real care warrants a complaint. I am still waiting for someone to call me having spoken to PALS.
