Good evening aprilzy39,

Thank you for taking the time to post, I apologise that you had such a long waiting time whilst in the emergency department.

The ED is unfortunately consistently overcrowded. The main reason for long waiting times is that we have large numbers of patients in ED who are waiting to go to an inpatient ward. This leaves very limited capacity of cubicles for our doctors to see new patients. I want to assure you this waiting time is not something that we normalise and the team in ED do our best to prioritise and get patients seen as soon as we possibly can depending on their clinical presentation and acuity.

The bloods and ECG that were done at triage will have ruled out the need for any immediate intervention needed when you present with chest pain.

Unfortunately when you leave the department you are removed from the system and have to start over again on your return. This is due to a number of reasons, one of them being for fire safety as we need to know who is in the department at all times.

I wholeheartedly understand your frustrations, and we know these waiting times are not acceptable, however it is out of our control when the ED is crowded with inpatient bed waits.

Thank you again for taking the time to post, I really hope your husband got seen and got whatever treatment he needed.

Sister Green.
