About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as a service user),

I need chlamydia meds urgently before leaving the country tomorrow-it was an excellent consultation-clinic was accommodating of tricky logistic.  The clinician was absolutely fantastic on the phone and made sure it would be sorted for me today. She was non judgemental and pragmatic, I cannot be grateful enough!

However, I told the receptionist I was calling that my “most recent sexual partner” had tested positive. Receptionist then referred to them as “your boyfriend” which was presumptive and untrue.

Overall, Devon Sexual Health is an absolutely fantastic service!

I answer phone calls from patients, book their appointments, find answers to their questions through liaising with clinicians, welcome patients and help where necessary. Plus admin duties.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your recent appointment with us here at Exeter Sexual Health. We do strive to make our patients feel as comfortable and cared for and understand the sensitive nature of what we do here.

The importance of being patient focussed and giving you control of what happens aids in better care and outcomes resulting in a more relaxed and open relationship between patients and clinicians. It is great to hear this approach was evident when you were contacted by phone.

Regarding your contact with the receptionist I have passed on the your comments about one of our staff members presuming your ''most recent sexual partner'' was ''your boyfriend'' and have been informed that our reception team will be advised to be more sensitive in this area and apologise for any offence.
