I fractured my cheek in May by slipping, it still hasn’t healed properly, it’s still painful and there is a dimple in it. Rather than referring me to the maxillofacial dept, I was told to revisit A&E! I foolishly believed that A&E was for emergencies.. and having waited 8 hours previously to have my X-ray which confirmed the fracture I was in no rush to go back.(no wonder the wait is so long if doctors are forever sending people up there) When I mentioned this, the doctor told me that he had had to wait 12 hours before which made me feel like I was being judged for complaining! I work full time and have a family and so it’s difficult to sit doing nothing for hours on end. I requested a referral even though the doctor told me repeatedly it would take approximately 15 weeks to be seen. When I checked my NHS app after my visit .. it stated that my jaw was the problem ? I contacted reception to ask if this would affect my referral.. to be then told, a referral had not been done as it had been noted that I was told to revisit A&E. Just sad that I can’t afford to go private!!
The doctor sat on his chair and never once took a close look or felt the affected area.. I then called the hospital A&E dept who passed me onto maxillofacial dept to be told that I would need a referral before they could see me but the wait list is generally a lot less than 15 weeks and so I’m no further forward, I’m still in pain and the visit to the doctor was 20 minutes of my life, I’ll not get back!
