"Long waiting time in a hot ward"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went in to the maternity unit due to bad cramps at 19 weeks pregnant. I was told to come for my appointment at 4pm, due to how busy ward 9A was I did not get seen until 6:30pm. This was not down to the midwives as they were amazing, it was to do with shortage of staff being able to help on the ward.

This was a really hot day and we were offered bottles of water to keep cool but the temperature in the hospital was way too warm. The waiting time and the temperature is just not acceptable especially when you are worrying about your baby. More staff members are needed to help make this ward better.

As I said previously, this is no reflection on the care I did receive when I was eventually seen. The midwives, registrar and student midwives were all lovely and respectful.

Dear LJS2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I will be sure to share the details of your patient journey to the midwifery and management team.

I am sorry that you experienced a delay in assessment, in uncomfortable conditions, when you attended ward 9a. Unfortunately at times of high activity there can be delays in assessing patients due to conflicting demands.

In order to respond to your feedback appropriately I would be happy to explore the details of your visit to our department to gain further insight and information.

I hope from speaking with you that your lived experience will influence improvement in our service. I would like to reassure you that there is ongoing work to streamline our processes in triage to promote timely assessments and treatment when required.
