I have serious concerns about ward 51.
I have experienced staff arguing with each other in the middle of a ward to a point I've had to complain.
There were several times when I have tried to get assistance for my father to be told that staff were all on lunch (apparently at the same time).
It's very hit and miss, as is the level of staffing and the quality in my opinion.
On discharge, it took hours longer than was necessary due to a delay in a prescription being issued. I was informed that as it was still not available it would be taxied to me, this did not happen.
The following day I called the ward to ask what was happening and was told that they were not going to issue a prescription and that his prescription had been altered with a reduction of several meds. When asked what I was supposed to do in the meantime I was told to call his GP, despite neither I nor the Doctor having discharge papers. It made no sense to call the GP Surgery.
When I told the nurse that this was all a bit of a shambles and that had I not continually called, I would never have been informed that no prescription was being supplied, the nurse appeared to seem offended at what I had said.
It has to be said that there are a few exceptions to the poor quality of care that we experienced, with credit and thanks to two nurses assists, who have been exemplary in the care and attention that they have given.
If there was any choice in the matter I would not choose for my father to be treated on this ward again should he be unfortunate enough to need medical attention again.
This ward, from the experience we have had, really needs a review and investigation.
"It's very hit and miss"
